You did it, you popped the question, and she said yes! Now the fun begins, choosing the venue and vendors for your big day!
So how do you choose the DJ that is the correct choice for your wedding? You want someone that you can rely on, who is responsible, professional, and who understands your taste in music and what you have envisioned for your day. After all, it's YOUR day, not the DJ's.
First things first, meet with your potential DJ and see if the interaction, both professionally and personally, meets with what you had in mind. If you get that feeling of "I am not quite sure about this individual" then my recommendation is to follow your gut and move on. You want a partner to work with, someone you can bounce ideas off, who is willing to work with you to create the atmosphere you want for your big day.
QUESTIONS you should ask your DJ when you meet with them:
What is your ceremony set up like? Do you have one separate from your reception set up? What microphones do you use for the officiant, bride and groom?
What genres of music can you cover?
Can you help me choose the music for my ceremony, reception entrances, and special dances?
Can we have a "do not play" list?
How are requests handled from guests? Can you obtain requested music easily, even if there is not Wi-Fi?
What is your overall presence like for the day of the wedding?
Do you have any media that you can show us that showcases what you can do?
What cuts of music do you play at weddings? Are they explicit language songs or are they clean cuts?
What is it that you as a DJ need from us, the couple, to help make the day a success?
Have you played weddings with similar needs as we require?
Do you MC any games such as the Shoe Game?
If there is no Day of Coordinator, how do you handle the timeline for the wedding?
These are all very important questions to ask any potential DJ for your day. This will give you can idea whether you can work with this individual over a number of months and feel comfortable that they will do their best to help you create the lasting memories you wish to make.
Overall, don't be afraid to say thank you, but no thank you, the fit just does not feel right for us. Remember, this is supposed to be about YOU, and what you as the Bride and Groom want for your day, and nothing else.
Congratulations on your engagement, and happy planning! Let us know if you'd like to meet to see if we are a fit for you!
